Jess Hough is a local artist/handyman. She spends most of her time plein air drawing out in the red rock desert, making traditional intaglio prints on her homemade printing press, making paper, and building hand made frames for her art.
In 2023 Jess was selected to be resident Community Artist in the Parks, a local program which partners artists with the national parks and monuments of Southeast Utah.
Much of this collection was created during her time out in the parks doing demos of print making and plein air drawing.
“Sand Dune Arch” - Arches National Park
Sand dune is a big natural sand box hidden away between some fins in Arches. It’s a great spot to take a sketchbook late on a hot summer afternoon. You can just hang out, sit in the sand, and enjoy the glowing shade of fins bouncing light off each other. **(It’s still beautiful but much less comfortable when it turns into a freezing, sand blasted wind tunnel in the fall).”
