Henry Barker
Henry likes to explore, to be open to whatever draws the attention, to notice the subtle things, to recognize the interconnection in everything. Henry has created art in countless ways since childhood, focused on abstract painting in college, and now brings a unique approach to desert landscape art with his color pencil drawings. His process involves feeling around for a balance between representation and abstraction, between admiration of nature's manifestations and creative self-expression. The path is fluid.
Henry draws a lot of his artistic inspiration from the limitless wonder that can be found in connection with the life and landscapes of southern Utah. With a tinge of abstraction fueled by intuition and imagination, his color pencil drawings emerge through a playful balance between precise control and creative release as he tries, mostly subconsciously, to visually incorporate those feelings of sensory and extrasensory magic that tend to arise when experiencing real immersion with the surroundings. Feeling the energies harmonizing, going with the flow, getting creative, exploding with color, finding balance, resting, reawakening curiosity, noticing the subtle things, having fun.
